Following on from the reissue last year of five records from African Head Charge, On-U Sound are following up with a new reissue campaign of material from Dub Syndicate, the ’80s project spearheaded by On-U Sound boss Adrian Sherwood.
Streaming above is one of six Dub Syndicate records seeing release tomorrow: Displaced Masters. Made up of previously unreleased material from Dub Syndicate, the nine-track record captures some of the more stripped-back music produced as part of the project. Three of the record’s tracks feature vocals from Jamaican musician Bim Sherman.
Also out tomorrow are reissues of The Pounding System, One Way System, the Doctor Pablo-featuring North of the River Thames and Tunes of the Missing Channel, as well as a CD anthology, entitled Ambience In Dub 1982 – 1985, collected across five discs and featuring a 24-page book.
Dub Syndicate was initially a studio-based projects led by Adrian Sherwood in the early years of his On-U Sound label, with Sherwood calling upon a rotating cast of Jamaican and British musicians for the project. It evolved over time though to become the main musical outlet of Style Scott who was a former drummer with the Roots Radics and Creation Rebel. Scott would produce backing tracks in Kingston, before passing the material onto Sherwood in London to work his mixing board magic on the tracks.
