LISTEN: Nicolas Bougaïeff On Relaunched NovaMute

Seminal British label NovaMute relaunches with new record from Nicolas Bougaïeff

NovaMute, the techno and electronic music-focused sub-label of Mute, launched in 1992, is being revived, and details of the label’s first release in over a decade have now been announced.

A 12" from Berlin-based Québécois producer Nicolas Bougaïeff will arrive at the end of this month, and above we have an exclusive video which sees Bougaïeff talk about the final touches for EP cut ‘Cognitive Resonance’, as well as how his collaboration with Mute label head Daniel Miller came about in putting out the record on the relaunched NovaMute. You can hear ‘Cognitive Resonance’ just below.

Across the record, also titled Cognitive Resonance, Bougaïeff explores various dancefloor-rooted sounds such as techno, acid and gabber, though he also draws on his own love of classical and avant-garde music, seeking to connect those disciplines with the harder side of dance music.

A number of further releases are lined up for NovaMute, with the likes of Terrence Fixmer and Charlotte de Witte signed up to issue EPs via the label in the near future.
