Following on from their joint venture earlier this year on the reissue of Midori Takada’s Through The Looking Glass, Palto Flats and WRWTFWW Records have reconvened for a reissue of another album that has slowly gathered cult status in recent years.
Yasuaki Shimizu’s 1982 album Kakashi has become highly sought after on the secondary record market with prices soaring on sites like Discogs, and more people discovering the record, as with Takada’s, via YouTube’s suggested video algorithms. Shimizu was the bandleader and principal songwriter for Japanese group Mariah, whose Utakata No Hibi album, another cult favourite, was reissued by Palto Flats in 2015, with Kakashi offering a similar blend of saxophone experimentations and jazz fusion to that of Mariah’s album.
Kakashi has been remastered for its reissue and will come with liner notes from Shimizu himself as well as music journalist Patrice Bollon. It will be available from November 24.
