James Holden & The Animal Spirits Announce London Show

James Holden announces the first date for his new band The Animal Spirits

James Holden and his newly expanded band The Animal Spirits have announced their first London show (and Holden’s first since 2015).

The gig will follow the release of their forthcoming album, also titled The Animal Spirits which is set for release on November 3. Holden and his ensemble will touch down in the UK following November shows in Utrecht (12), Berlin (28) and Leipzig (30) to play the Islington Assembly Hall in London on December 6.

Holden’s calibre and experience as a live performer has been steadily evolving over the past few years, with encouragement from Dan Snaith, otherwise known as Caribou and Daphni, and Radiohead’s Thom Yorke doing little to extinguish the fervour created by his 2013 album The Inheritors.

The Animal Spirits will be released on Holden’s own label Border Community, with the band comprising longtime collaborators of Holden’s in drummer Tom Page and producer Etienne Jaumet, among others.

When Holden selected albums in 2014 for his Baker’s Dozen here with tQ, he had this to say about live performance: "You can come up with new stuff in a rehearsal or when you’re jamming in private, but onstage it’s different – something original happens onstage that’s even better. Those ideas are worth taking home and thinking about."

You can get tickets for the show here.
