Spotify are hoping to unleash an iPhone application on the masses – but could face opposition from Apple.
The free music streaming service will allow users to listen to free music on demand with a database of over six million tracks, as well as share and edit other people’s playlists, but there are fears that Apple may see Spotify as a direct challenge to their own iTunes service.
Spotify communications manager Jim Butcher confided: “It’s going to be very interesting to see if Apple lets this through or sees us as competition — fingers crossed."
Spotify must also sign a deal with copyright holders, but founder Daniel Eks claims he is "very comfortable [about that], in that the labels want to see Spotify in the U.S.”
