Discogs’ Database Exceeds Five Million Artists

The online music marketplace also now lists music from more than one million labels

Discogs have unveiled their latest round of stats, revealing that the online music marketplace now lists music from more than five million artists.

The news also comes backed up with information that more than one million labels are now listed on the site, as well as 8.5 million releases.

Discogs was launched 17 years ago and has accumulated these listings in that time, thanks to the work of 355,000 contributors to the site. As Resident Advisor reports, this is an increase in the eight million releases catalogued on the site as of January of this year, and shows that an average of 26,000 releases are being added to the database each week in 2017.

The team behind Discogs are also currently busy getting their latest project off the ground, Gearogs, which allows users to list, buy and sell music and audio equipment, much like Discogs allows users to sell records and other formats of music.
