Richard Dawson has released the music video for ‘Soldier’, cut from his forthcoming album Peasant.
"’Solider’ is an old tune with new words," says Dawson of the track. "I wrote them around the time of the EU referendum, so that’s in there, and it was also a period when I’d been on the road a lot and was missing my darling. It’s quite a desperate song in a way, though it also contains a lot of hope, and has a calm centre."
Dawson discussed the conceptual background of Peasant in a recent tQ interview, which you can check out here. It follows narratives of families and individuals in pre-mediaeval North East England. Dawson describes the world of Peasant as ”a panorama of a society which is at odds with itself."
Peasant is released 2 June via <a href="http://weirdworld.dominomart.com/artist/richard-dawson” target="out">Weird World / Domino. You can listen to another track from the record <a href="http://thequietus.com/articles/22164-new-richard-dawson” target="out">here.
