Seattle label Light In The Attic looks to Japan for a series of upcoming releases which will collect music from various artists across different time periods and sounds under the Japan Archive Series banner.
The series kicks off in October with the release of Even A Tree Can Shed Tears: Japanese Folk & Rock 1969-1973, which will focus on folk and rock music from the years specified, taking in tracks from Haruomi Hosono, Kazuhiko Kato, Kenji Endo and many others. You can listen to Kazuhiko Kato’s ‘Arthur Hakase No Jinriki Hikouki’, which features on the compilation above. That will be available from October 20.
There will also be other anthologies of this kind in the series including Pacific Breeze: Japanese City Pop, AOR & Boogie 1975-1985 and Kankyō Ongaku: Japanese Ambient, Environmental & New Age Music 1980-1990 – the latter is curated by Visible Cloaks’ Spencer Doran.
In all, the series will take in dozens of releases, the label says, with a special project alongside one of Japan’s most influential and respected artists – the label is keeping the identity of said artist secret for now.
