Daniel O’Sullivan has announced details of VELD, a new solo album from the man otherwise known as one half of Grumbling Fur. Above, you can listen to lead track ‘HC SVNT DRACONES’.
VELD will be released on Tim Burgess’ O Genesis Recordings label and was written and recorded between 2010 and 2016 while O’Sullivan was living on Tower Gardens Road, during which time O’Sullivan was working on collaborative projects such as Grumbling Fur and Laniakea.
The house in which O’Sullivan was writing in belonged to Ian Johnstone, artist and muse of the late Jhonn Balance of Coil. Johnstone passed away in 2015 and the album is dedicated to him and his home, which O’Sullivan describes as "a friend, inspiration and grounding space over the years".
The album is, much like other parts of O’Sullivan’s work, grounded in a love of the alternative corners of pop music, taking in influences from Ray Bradbury (whose story Veldt inspired the album’s title), Cocteau Twins, Alice Coltrane and Tony Conrad among others. VELD is released on June 30.
