Tinariwen are set to return in the new year with a brand new album, entitled Elwan, and above we have a new single, ‘Sastanàqqàm’, streaming right now.
The track follows on from the previously unveiled ‘Ténéré Tàqqàl’, the album’s lead cut, with the album set to feature Mark Lanegan and Kurt Vile on guest duties. The album itself was recorded across two different locations, with the group’s homeland between north-eastern Mali and southern Algeria having recently become a conflict zone.
In 2014 the band recorded at Rancho de la Luna studios in the desert of California’s Joshua Tree National Park alongside a number of guests. Two years later, the band set to work in M’Hamid El Ghizlane, in southern Morocco, where they were accompanied by a number of local musicians Elwan is out on February 10.
