WIN: Exclusive V/Vm CD Limited To 10 Copies

As Leyland James Kirby's V/Vm project returns, seeing him adapt the style of light entertainer Mrs Mills, read on for details of how you can get your hands on one of only 10 copies of another new release which sees him reinterpreting the works of Tim Hecker as if done by Nils Frahm

In August, Leyland James Kirby, also otherwise known as The Caretaker, announced that he would be returning to his V/Vm project, reviving the alias after a decade-long break, writing: “V/Vm is back and ready for business.”

Now we know exactly what he was referring to, with the release having just been announced of Between eternity and nothingness, a project which will be released by V/Vm as Mrs Mills. If you don’t know who Mrs Mills is, you can have a watch of the video just below to inform yourself fully, but as a pianist in the 1960s and 1970s, she was famed for her performances of a number of sing-along party tunes at music halls up and down the country.

This new release from V/Vm sees Kirby adapt Tim Hecker’s recent Love Streams album in a Mrs Mills party style, reverse engineering Hecker’s originals, and it is available to buy in a limited CD edition from Boomkat here, while you can also download it for free here. You can also get a full explanation of Kirby’s process in producing the album via that link.

That’s not all Kirby has been up to as V/Vm though as he has also applied a similar process to Hecker’s last album, only this time as if Nils Frahm had reworked it. However, only 10 CD copies of this have been produced – you can take a look at photographic evidence of its existence just below – and tQ is offering you the chance to get your hands on one of them via the competition below.

Explaining a little more about this specific undertaking, Kirby said: “I was over the moon to discover that Nils Frahm is a big fan of ‘An Empty bliss’ and that he sampled a track from it on his Late Night Tales mix. With a smile and to return the favour I thought I’d try my hand at making Tim’s last album as if Nils reworked it on his Una Corda and fully pressed up the result on Compact-Disco for my own enjoyment.”

If you want to enter to win a copy of the CD, all you have to do is email an image of anything tied to anything else to comps@thequietus.com. The competition closes at midday on November 7 and we will pick a winner very shortly after. Just to give you some inspiration, take a look at the video below.
