Simon Reynolds, author of the acclaimed and much-cited Energy Flash: A Journey through Rave Music and Dance Culture among many other books, is set to launch his latest work, Shock and Awe this week with events planned in London and Manchester.
The book, published by the Faber team, sees Reynolds take a close look at all things glam, as the sound and look took hold of rock music following the sixties, in the work of such acts as David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Alice Copper, Marc Bolan, Suzi Quatro and many more. Reynolds takes a close look at the styles associated with the sound, the music it produced and the sexual politics at play across the seventies, while also taking a look at its effect on the modern era in the work of acts like Lady Gaga. You can find out more about the book and pre-order it here, while you can head back to these pages again tomorrow to check out our own John Doran in conversation with Reynolds for a special episode of The Quietus Hour.
Tomorrow’s launch in London takes place at The Forge, while Thursday’s event in Manchester takes place at Home. You can get tickets for the London event here and for Manchester here.
However, we are offering you the chance to win a pair of tickets if you send the correct answer to the question below to comps@thequietus.com.
