Norwegian Metal Musician Elected Unexpectedly

Fenriz of Darkthrone is elected to local neighbourhood council despite leading campaign aiming not to get elected

Veteran Norwegian black metaller Fenriz of Darkthrone will soon release Arctic Thunder, a new album alongside the band, but ahead of that, he has received the rather unexpected honour of being elected to be part of the local neighbourhood council in his home of Kolbotn, Oslo.

“They called and asked if I wanted to be on the list [of back-up candidates],” he told CLRVYNT. “I said ‘yeah’, thinking I would be like 18th on the list and I wouldn’t really have to do anything.”

Fenriz’ campaign consisted of him taking a picture with his cat (seen above) and sharing it with election materials specifically asking not to be elected. It didn’t quite go to plan though and now he will have to stand on the local council before he can step down in four years.
