Matmos will play a special show at the Barbican later this year which will see them interpret and perform three acts from Robert Ashley’s TV-opera Perfect Lives.
The audiovisual show will feature a string quarter, piano, back-up singers, electronics and narration, and the performance will be accompanied by new collaborative video work from M.C. Schmidt and Baltimore video artist Max Filbacher.
The show will follow on from recent performances by Matmos of latest album Ultimate Care II which was brought together by sampling washing machine sounds. Perfect Lives ran from 1978-1983 with Ashley touching on subjects such as bank robbery, geriatric love and more in the American midwest. The show takes place at the Barbican on October 23 with tickets on sale this Friday (June 10). You can find out more here.
