This year’s Mercury Prize will see the public entering the fray on voting for the first time with one of the 6 albums on the shortlist decided by a public vote.
The longlist of 12 albums will be announced on August 4 with the public then invited to select one album on the list which will be fast-tracked to the final shortlist. The judging panel, which this year includes Jarvis Cocker, Kate Tempest and Ellie Rowsell of Wolf Alice among others, will then decide the remaining five albums and pick the ultimate winner which will be announced on September 15. Last year’s winner of the prize was Benjamin Clementine for his album At Least For Now.
