WATCH: Richard Ashcroft Interview

Our John talks to a fellow Northerner for Noisey; watch it below

tQ’s very own John Doran has interviewed Richard Ashcroft for the latest episode of his series, The British Masters. You can watch it above.

The typically outspoken Ashcroft discusses inspiration, mental health, chippies and the life-changing effects of growing up in the North.

Along the way he talks about feeding off the odds being stacked against him, and the press’s weird reaction to his fatherhood: “When I was a dad they couldn’t stop asking me about it. I was like, “am I the first musician ever to have a child?”

Also covered, the possibility of making a musical with the Gallagher brothers, no less. “I would love to do a musical with them both”, says Ashcroft. “Both our music combined with a story about both our youths. We’ve crossed paths, been mates, looked after each other.”

The British Masters is a collection of interviews with the some of the most influential and colourful figures from British popular music history. Ashcroft follows in the footsteps of Brian Ferry, Roots Manuva, Mark E Smith, Neil Tennant and more to sit down and chat with John on the programme.
