More Details On Technics Turntable

Update on the classic SL-1200 model to be available from later this year

Following the unveiling last year of a prototype for a new model of the classic Technics 1200 turntable, Panasonic have now confirmed further details on the revival of its classic product.

The SL-1200G is the first product of the company’s mission statement to “redefine” the direct drive turntable which they outline here. The new turntable maintains some of the classic elements of its predecessors, including the heavy aluminium top plate, but it also will come with a more sensitive tonearm, a brass turntable platter and a “twin-rotor surface-facing” motor. It also had a pitch range of plus-or-minus 8% or 16% as well as the ability to play records at 33.3, 45 and 78 RPM.

The “Grand Class” SL-1200GAE model, which is limited edition, will be available in the summer with the cheaper, mass-produced SL-1200G set to follow later in the year.
