LISTEN: New Owiny Sigoma Band

Group made up of British and Kenyan musicians share another track from their forthcoming third album; check it out below

Made up of three Londoners, brothers Louis and Jesse Hackett and school friend Tom Skinner, and two elderly Kenyans, Joseph Nyamungu and Charles Owoko, Owiny Sigma Band release their third album, Nyanza, later this week. Above we’re very happy to offer you a first play of album track and next single ‘I Made You / You Made Me’ ahead of the album’s release.

The track, with vocals from Jesse of the band, is said to have been inspired by the birth of his daughter making for what the group consider to be one of their most joyous pop offerings to date. It’s the second track to be revealed from the group’s forthcoming album following the release of ‘Changaa Attack’ which you can listen to below. To record the album, the group visited the Nyanza Province, which lends itself to the album’s title of course, of Western Kenya, the birthplace of Luo music and homeland of Joseph and Charles. Joseph and Charles are both well-versed in the traditions of Luo music, playing the Nyatiti and the Nyidoungue drums respectively. Nyanza is out this Friday via Brownswood Records.
