Skepta To Receive AIM Award

Grime pioneer will take home the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award at this year's AIM Independent Music Awards

Following the announcement last week of this year’s AIM Independent Music Awards nominees it has now been revealed that Skepta will receive the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award on the night.

In what some are considering a breakthrough year for the Tottenham MC, AIM say that this award will recognise “someone with an incredible body of work who continues to shape their genre and be a source of inspiration to new artists”. AIM Awards judge and BBC Radio 1 / 1Xtra presenter MistaJam said: “Since Grime was born out of the ashes of UK Garage, Skepta has been a pioneer of the sound, of the DIY business model and the culture. DJ, Producer, Writer, MC, record label boss and performer – there’s no denying Skepta has put in the blood, sweat and tears for the last 10 whole years and now, as he stands on the cusp of true international acclaim, it feels right to award Skepta for his immense contribution so far to British Music.”

Skepta will receive the award at this year’s AIM Awards ceremony which will take place at The Brewery in Clerkenwell on September 8. Other winners on the night will include Ninja Tune, taking home the Innovator Award, and Digby Pearson who will receive the Pioneer Award. Richie Hawtin was the recipient of last year’s Outstanding Contribution to Music Award.
