LISTEN: Gazelle Twin Covers Brian Wilson

Elizabeth Bernholz shares the Brian Wilson cover that recently closed The Walking Dead's fifth season

Viewers of The Walking Dead may have recently caught the sounds of Gazelle Twin closing out Season five of the series with a cover of Brian Wilson’s ‘Love and Mercy’ and you can now listen to the track exclusively above, ahead of its UK and European release tomorrow.

Speaking of the track, Thomas Golubic, music supervisor for the series, said: “[Writer] Scott Gimple had the idea of doing a cover of ‘Love and Mercy’ and we reached out to avant garde electronic artist Elizabeth Bernholz. The sunniness of Brian Wilson’s song dovetails so nicely with Elizabeth’s darker production aesthetic to create what we think is another compelling and surprising music moment to close the season finale.” ‘Love and Mercy’ follows the release of Bernholz’s second album, Unflesh, last September.

Working on the track in the midst of an international tour, Bernholz said she was “sick with excitement” to be asked to contribute music to the series. “I had only been looking at Michonne action figures on the internet, I love all the offshoots from the comic, including the video game,” she said. “I had a Beach Boys song at my wedding, so this was one of those dream scenarios. I respond best to visual leads and [Golubic] perfectly articulated this idea of pitching dark vs light, and weaving tenderness, horror and sadness altogether.” ‘Love and Mercy’ will be available, via iTunes, from tomorrow in the UK and Europe.
