Our good friend Horton Jupiter has given us a groovy mix to chase away those post bank holiday blues and to summon Summer down with his incantatory Balearic ritual and good time boogie.
Horton is the brain wizard behind East London Party night The Thing which is relaunching again on Friday at The Yard Theatre, Hackney Wick. The party features audio visual psychedelic stormtroopers Sculpture and deck master Ed DMX but kicks off with Horton himself.
And this is just a little taster of what he has in store…
He tells us: "The opening track is the super rare ‘Schizoid "Disco" Kid’ by The Electric Kids was allegedly recorded by a French punk band that HATED disco, so they went and made a disco record full of hate about someone that goes to a discotheque and then goes on killing spree… except they accidentally made an underground disco classic!
"In a similar spirit the following track ‘That’s The Kind Of Love I Got For You’ by Dusty Springfield, was one of her two forays into disco. This track was hated by Dusty, who battled to have it remain unreleased as a single.
"The fourth track, ‘II° Coro Delle Lavandaie’ by Roberto De Simone is taken from a 1976 Italian stage musical and has been sampled and edited many times, although the original is still the best. Also, (Yoshimi side project) ooioo’s amazing 2007 12" on Thrill Jockey ‘ooEYEoo’ is actually a cover version of it!"
