Longstanding tQ favourite Richard Skelton has just announced a new album, Belated Movements For An Unsanctioned Exhumation August 1st 1984, the second he’s putting out as The Inward Circles. The title is in reference to the Lindow Man, the bog body discovered in Cheshire, and sets out the theme of unearthing that runs through the album, which goes from ‘Petition For Reinterment’ through to ‘Canis, Lynx, Ursus: Awake, Arise, Reclaim’, the latter alluding to the buried bones of the wolves, lynxes and bears long since extinct in Britain.
The announcement’s been made through the Art Assembly, and Skelton will be launching the album with three shows as part of their Saisonscape series next month – Islington Mill, Salford on March 20, De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill-on-Sea, 21, and St John’s Hackney, London, 22 – and AA have marked the news with a stream of ‘To Your Fox-Skin Chorus’ from the album. "The reference to fox skin, borrowed from Edmund Gosse," they say, "alludes to the fox fur arm-covering found on Lindow Man, and, more obliquely, to the fox as a psychopomp – a soul guide – which formed a central theme in Skelton’s recent Ferae Naturae book and exhibition."
