On February 3, John Carpenter – made all those excellent horror and sci-fi films, produced their equally excellent soundtracks, sends tQ’s film editor into a tizzy – will be releasing his new album, Lost Themes, via Sacred Bones Records. It’s not hooked around any film, for the first time, which Carpenter seemed to enjoy in a big way: "It can be both great and bad to score over images, which is what I’m used to. Here there were no pressures. No actors asking me what they’re supposed to do. No crew waiting. No cutting room to go to. No release pending. It’s just fun."
Now, he’s put out a full track from the album – listen to ‘Night’ above, and then head over to Sacred Bones’ site, where ‘Vortex’ is looping over. New York-based readers, meanwhile, can look forward to Carpenter taking part in an onstage interview at the Brooklyn Academy of Music on February 5, followed by a career retrospective of film screenings beginning the day after.
