Next week, Githead will be releasing Waiting For A Sign, their first new album in five years. It’s the product of the post-punk supergroup – Wire’s Colin Newman, Malka Spigel, Robin Rimbaud, aka Scanner, and Max Franken of Minimal Compact – reconvening, at Wales’ celebrated Rockfield Studios, for the first time after 2009’s Landing, and starting afresh. "How the material turned out is at least in part because there was no plan as regards the actual music," says Newman, who’s putting it out through his swim~ label. "The time in the studio was simply the frame; there was no discussion at all as to what kind of thing we’d be playing."
