The stern young men of S.C.U.M. seem to delight in being wilfully obtuse, so it’s no surprise to hear that the band’s next few releases won’t be ‘singles’ at all, but actually ‘SIGNALS’, recorded at and beamed back from various outposts on their European tour schedule.
The London quartet will be recording “new works specific to each location” their live adventures lead them to, releasing each one as a digital download for a limited period only.
The first entry in S.C.U.M.’s "audio visual scrapbook" is titled ‘Warsaw’ and was out Monday (Apr 27th). A video of the track – produced by Gareth Jones (Can, Wire, These New Puritans) – looms ominously below.
While not unsatisfied by this offering, The Quietus implores S.C.U.M. to venture further afield. How about Jamaica chaps? Botswana? Honolulu? You could surf. It’d be rad!
S.C.U.M. play London’s Bardens Boudoir on May 21st and will appear at Field Day 2009.
