It’s back! With the weather forecast not predicting the sweltering temperatures that turned London’s Old Spitalfields Market into one giant heat trap last year, you’ll be able to browse a mammoth amount of vinyls, CDs, cassettes and label merchandise from the greats of the indie world (relatively) sweat-free and ever-lighter of wallet.
As ever, the list of labels flogging their wares direct from the stalls is immense: there’s 4AD, Acid Jazz, Because, Beggars Archive, Bella Union, Best Fit, Big Dada, Brownswood, Caught By The River, City Slang, Domino, Drag City, Eglo, Erased Tapes, Faber & Faber, Heavenly Recordings, Houndstooth, Hyperdub, Infectious, Jagjaguwar, Ninja Tune, Peacefrog, Phantasy Sound, PIAS, R&S, Secretly Canadian, Sonic Cathedral, Soundway, Stolen Recordings, Upset The Rhythm, Warp and XL to name just a few. Special treats include Martin Mills hosting the Beggars Archive stall, boasting "gems and rarities from the vaults of the original Beggars Banquet chain of record shops, along with classic cuts from the trailblazing set of Beggars labels who’ve been at the forefront of independent music for the last 30 years." Label bosses Kode 9 and Floating Points will be behind proceedings at the Hyperdub and Eglo stalls respectively, while Quietus favourites Matt Berry and Bo Ningen will be putting in appearances at over Acid Jazz and Stolen.
ILM are also reuniting with the London Brewers Market, meaning that you can sup ales from the likes of Beavertown, Five Points and London Fields while listening to DJ sets from Reginald Omas Momode IVth, Cloud Boat, DJ Supermarket, Full Nelson, Jimpster, Felix Martin, New Build and Bullion. What better way to spend your Saturday? Proceedings run from 11 am-6 pm, and full details are on Facebook and website.
