Msza swięta w Altonie, a Polish improvisation collective featuring Filip Kalinowski, one third of post-industrial group kIRk and ace tQ contributor, are set to release their first album. Out shortly on Requiem Records, we’ve got a first play of Bezkrólewie ("Interregnum") – have a listen above. The group is a "sound project in which the music – when created during the quartet’s meetings – is a derivative of clashing signals and a consequence of their interaction," says Kalinowski. "Msza święta w Altonie ["Holy mass in the city of Altona"] is a project in which music is in fact a flash. This music is not a melody, phrase or even a note. It is not a goal in itself. The goal is to intensively interact. Without any unwanted ornaments. Without language and gesture. Opening the project to the spectators/listeners is a paradox. What do they feel? What are their gains? Nobody knows, and nobody measures that. Bezkrólewie is a record comprising four improvised sessions, registered in the Płock studio Centrala. The quartet, having so far performed only live, adapted itself to the studio conditions without changing its attitude to their instruments, sound or structure. Their rules remain unchanged."
