WATCH: Locrian – Return To Annihilation

Chicago metal trio take a kaleidoscopic turn in seven-minute video

Locrian have given us a first look at their new video for ‘Return to Annihilation’, the title track from their newest album released last year.

Directed by Francesca Marongiu, the video leads you on an epic visual journey over curiously dark, kaleidoscopic terrains, a fine foil to the track’s haunting nature. Discussing the inspiration behind the video, Locrian’s Terence Hannum says: "One of the main influences was Andrei Tarkovsky’s film Stalker, and she [Francesca] tried to emulate that movie’s bleak environmental landscape.” Adds bandmate André Foisy: "One thing that’s so interesting about decay and destruction is that there’s this ghostly moment where a scene from the present post-industrial world is almost indistinguishable from a scene from a very primordial world. The video displays the slippage in the ghostly mirroring that’s both a modern world and a primordial one and that’s very disturbing."
