Three Poems By: JDA Winslow

Taking a break from the standard form - in the battle of consistency vs completeness, the latter having won out - this week we have three new poems by writer and artist JDA Winslow

Pret Poems

No Problems

You’re unsure of your new haircut

I can tell (you)

it will resolve no problems

asymmetry is unattractive.

Sad girl

got that

sad teen attitude.

She’s been losing weight.

Fresh snowfall

-eat only

porridge and juice.

Everyone covered in a fine synthetic powder.

This will resolve no problems.

Everyone checking the news

to see who is dead

or which dogs can surf

or updates on the rich and famous.

melody,

harmony,

hollow cheeked authenticity.

On all sides

I am angry

and well informed.

This will resolve no problems.

Imagine

Imagine…

a man unable to remove a napkin from his shoe

in a comfortable

pleather

burgundy

body support.

Imagine…

hating a song you like,

and singing along.

Imagine…

porridge

juice

and

cheap synthetic clothing.

Imagine…

Alan Yentob saying:

“This will resolve no problems”

Imagine…

my love for you as a great wave

that will purge this stagnant water

and leave us so blind

as to be

almost new.

Imagine…

no new emails

now.

I feel inspired

I’m probably tired

electro panpipe pop please.

Dreamtime

two weeks of dreamtime;

start here.

shooting up

the backwards river.

I leave this poem for coffee.

As with

the central character

in Heller’s

difficult second album

I accrue

the characteristics of others

a high fibre muffin,

a filter coffee

the coffee,

black belonging to my father.

The high fibre muffin

is from the author

of a seven page document

detailing the most glaring of my character flaws:

“emotional retardation”

or, to quote:

‘“emotional retardation”’

thank you,

yes

it is difficult to talk about zen

without mentioning

Edward Said

and the japanese girl

I want to fuck

but won’t

I’m falling in love with everyone

but

stop writing german words upon the table

I’ve never eaten mussels Brigit

now leave me alone.
