John Cohen, aka crafter of demolished electronic music Dead Fader, this week released not one but two new full-length albums. Dead Fader’s output has been renowned for its crushing rhythmic pressure and abrasive sensibility; as the Quietus’ Angus Finlayson put it in 2012, they "expertly walk the tightrope between the crisp punch of dancefloor percussion and a deterritorialised onslaught of pure noise … your average Dead Fader track is a masterpiece of control, prying open a porthole into the yawning void whilst keeping a few toes carefully planted on the dancefloor."
These two new albums, Blood Forest (released through Robot Elephant) and Scorched (released through Small But Hard), show off two distinct sides of the Dead Fader sound. With both released this week, we’re pleased to be able to offer you the full streams of both records; you can listen to them via the embeds below.
Scorched, as its title suggests, continues to explore the blasted textures of old – you can listen to it above. But Blood Forest is more openly melodic and narrative-led, a slight departure from previous Dead Fader material, although still bearing traces of that familiar anarchic energy flickering around the peripheries – listen to it below.
To order copies of the albums, you can click here to visit the Dead Fader shop site. And the launch party takes place in Berlin on 2nd May, with Dead Fader, DJ Scotch Bonnet, DJ Tapes, DJ Die Soon and more. Click here for information.
We’re also pleased to be able to offer one winner a copy of each of the two albums on vinyl. To be in with a chance of winning, send your answer to the following question to comps@thequietus.com with "DEAD FADER" in the subject line, by next Friday 2nd May.
