Generation Bass label owner DJ UMB has shared with us a new EP by Bazoga, an ace chaabi-influenced electronic duo comprising Moroccan-born brothers Salim and Tayeb Bayri, now based in Strasbourg and Budapest respectively. ArabTronix Volume 1 contains material previously included in UMB’s ArabTronix mixtape, taking in original cut ‘Radar’, a track from dimmiT!!!, Tayeb’s solo project, and their remix of Die Antwoord’s ‘Dis Iz Why I’m Hot’.
Says Tayeb: "Bazoga is a chance to rediscover the music which always surrounded us [in Morocco], allowing us to better understand it. The music of our parent’s generation, chaabi, the music of the Middle Atlas, doukkala".
