LISTEN: Ninetails – Radiant Hex

First play of new track from forthcoming EP Quiet Confidence

It’s been a while since forward-thinking Liverpool trio Ninetails released their last EP, Slept And Did Not Sleep, of which we said: "it taps into western society’s technological dependence, in which forever left-on mobiles, laptops and devices interrupt our slumber, electronic punctuations breaking through the music as our devices cut through our stupor." Since then, the band have signed with former Talk Talk manager Keith Aspden’s label Pond Life, which has previously released the Talk Talk live album London 1986 and reissued Mark Hollis’ self-titled solo album, to release their third EP, Quiet Confidence, slated to come out in March. Ahead of that, we’ve got a first play of the record’s opener ‘Radiant Hex’. Of the track, the band’s Jordan Balaber says: "’Radiant Hex’ recounts an exorcism. The energumen was said to have had spiritual ‘serpents’ wrapped around his spine. I wanted to convey a feeling of suspension and anti-gravity, evoking bright, bold washes of colour. I imagined moments that were overtly ecstatic juxtaposed with zones of slow-motion and stillness."

Have a listen to the track, a wending, avant-pop cut that’s initially hooked around spacious, reversed guitars, only to disassemble and morph over its duration, colliding murmured vocals with submerged, lapping samples and the gentle blare of horns, below, and head to the band’s Facebook for details:
