Epic Of Everest: Screening & Q&A Info

Rough Trade East to host a screening of Captain John Noel's film on 17th January, followed by a live Q&A with Sandra Noel and Simon Fisher Turner hosted by tQ's Luke Turner

Captain John Noel’s The Epic Of Everest, a film documenting George Mallory and Sandy Irvine’s fateful 1924 attempt to reach the summit of Everest, has been a favourite of the year at Quietus HQ. That includes the film itself – one of the earliest filmed records of life in Tibet, which was restored and re-released this year – and its newly commissioned soundtrack by Simon Fisher Turner, whose release on Mute recently landed it near the top of our list of favourite soundtracks and compilations of 2013.

The Epic Of Everest is being released by the BFI in a dual-format DVD/Blu-Ray edition on 20th January. To mark the release, Caught By The River and BFI are presenting a special screening of the film at Rough Trade East, Brick Lane, at 6:30pm on Friday 17th January. The screening will be followed by a live Q&A with the director’s daughter Sandra Noel and soundtrack composer Simon Fisher Turner, hosted by the Quietus’ Luke Turner. Copies of the film will also be on sale at the event, in advance of the official release date.
