WATCH: Magik Markers – Ice Skater

Plus, band announce European tour dates in November, with new album due that month

We haven’t heard from the previously super-prolific Connecticut duo Magik Markers since their last album on Drag City, 2009’s Balf Quarry. However, yesterday saw the release of a brand new single, ‘Ice Skater’, which comes ahead of a new album, Surrender To The Fantasy, out on November 18, and the band have announced that they’ll be playing a run of dates in Europe around that time – have a look below.

We’ve been told that the single isn’t an indicator of the album’s sound (it doesn’t feature on the LP), though ‘Ice Skater’, a gentle, restrained synth-pop track, which reins in some of the Markers’ dissonance in favour of lacing strings and Elisa Ambrogio’s vocals over rudimentary drum machine patterns and seeping synths, is an ace cut of its own accord. Say the band of the track: "Like all heavy songs, it refers at times to a young Kristi Yamaguchi, arcane correspondences, the uncreated, and the smell of the hallway in your old middle school." Have a watch of the video above and stay tuned to the band’s Tumblr for updates.
