Daniel O’Sullivan & Steve Moore Debut LP Details

Mothlite/Grumbling fur man teams up with one half of Zombi for Mercury, upcoming via Planet Mu

UK electronic institution Planet Mu have been having a great, varied year thus far in 2013, with everything from electronic pop from Heterotic and John Wizards to a batch of material from label boss Mike Paradinas as Mu-ziq, and RP Boo’s killer psychedelic footwork odyssey Legacy.

Now they’ve announced that this October will see the release of the debut album by Miracle, aka the team-up of Daniel O’Sullivan (of Mothlite and Grumbling Fur, the latter of whom crafted one of tQ’s favourite albums of this year in Glynnaestra), and Zombi’s Steve Moore, who has recently released some excellent solo cosmic techno excursions through L.I.E.S. Titled Mercury, it’s set for release on October 21st, and consists of a suite of pulsating synth-pop tracks that the duo claim were inspired in part by Joel Schumacher’s The Lost Boys, of all things. Originally starting life as instrumental dance music, with the duo having met while touring together in their groups Zombi and Guapo, Miracle gradually became more of a song-based concern when O’Sullivan began writing lyrics for the pieces.

"There are anthemic power ballads on [the album] but it also has an unstable tension and is rich in atmosphere," says the text accompanying the album’s release, "with songs at times pulling on Steve Moore’s love for the grainy fog of Italian horror soundtracks, plus the lyrics have an almost occult introspection, troubled, elliptical sentiments animated by choral rounds and harmonies. Maybe it was the length of time it took to make, but each song sounds like a chapter, with a unique mood."
