Norwegian electropop group Datarock will be marking the twelfth appearance at the country’s Numusic festival by fulfilling a long-held ambition: performing a musical.

The group conceived the idea in 2010 and it’s now come to fruition, with a little help from composer Morten Christophersen, and will be debuting on Friday 6 September at Stavanger’s brand new concert house backed by the city’s symphony orchestra.

Says the band’s Fredrik Saroea: “Numusic has always been kind enough to cheer Datarock along. Pushing and giving us feedback. So this time we’re both pushing limits, by presenting the most bizarre idea we could come up with: Datarock The Musical… in concert. Had there been ice, that’s what we’d have been skating. Featuring a full hour of brand new, never-before-heard music and orchestral arrangements. Have we pushed it to far? We probably have!”

The band will be recording the event, with future plans to make a film in the works.

They’ll be joining a bill that already includes Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry and The Orb, John Grant and others, running from September 5-8 in Stavanger; for full details and tickets, head to the festival’s website.
