Geoff Barrow’s ace Bristol-based independent label Invada Records have announced that they will be releasing Cliff Martinez’s soundtrack to Steven Soderbergh’s 2002 film Solaris on vinyl for the first time later this year.
It’s Invada’s second time releasing Martinez’s work, having put out his Drive soundtrack on double pink vinyl last year (the Solaris LP will be on black and white vinyl, as well as with two covers – the first is up top with the second at the foot of the piece).
Martinez has gone on to be a supremely prolific soundtrack composer since his time as drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers in the mid-eighties. As well as Solaris, he’s been a frequent Soderbergh collaborator, producing the score for his films Sex, Lies And Videotape, Traffic and Contagion, as well as soundtracking Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers from earlier this year and Nicolas Winding Refn’s just-released Drive follow-up Only God Forgives (watch the site tomorrow for our review).
