LISTEN: Society – 14 Hours

Second single from the (now slightly less) elusive London act

Society have announced that they’re set to follow up last year’s debut single, ‘All That We’ve Become’, with a new track next month: ’14 Hours’ through Angular on September 9. Not only that, but they’re shedding a little of their anonymity, and revealing themselves to be the work of London-based singer James Girdler (that’s him with the nasty ear injury above). We’re delighted to give the track its first play – have a listen below:

It’s cut from the same cloth as the first single, sample-scouring, wide-eyed pop that recalls The Avalanches as much as it does the upper echelons of 70s soul. Starting up with an ear worm vocal loop running atop vaulting choir vocals, it gets decked out in full Wall of Sound pomp, albeit of a slightly darker hue. Factor in the juddering touches of drum machine that underwrite the track, and it’s got the imprint of a crate digger, traversing a lot of ground in its supremely well-crafted four minutes.

Says Girdler: "This project has been a total labour of love for almost two years now. After countless nights making drones with amazing bits of old gear we’re very excited to be letting this project step out of the shadows."

There’s a video for the track plus live dates in the works, so stay tuned to the site for updates.
