Tim Hecker Announces New Album

Virgins on the way in October; expect "something like an attempt at the sound of frankincense in slow-motion"

Montreal electronics man Tim Hecker has announced that he’ll be releasing his new album Virgins via Kranky on October 14.

It’ll be his seventh album, following up on 2011’s Ravedeath, 1972, and will come after Kranky reissue his third LP Mirages, on vinyl for the first time.

Says the text accompanying the announcement, "This record employs woodwinds, piano and synthesisers towards an effort at doing what digital music does not do naturally – making music that is out of time, out of tune and out of phase," adding: "But it is not ‘fake church music’ for a secular age, rather something like an attempt at the sound of frankincense in slow-motion, or of a pulsing, flickering fluorescence in the grotto."

Ahead of that, have a listen to our recent Kranky 20th anniversary mixtape, featuring a cut from Hecker, here.
