Freakier Zone/tQ Jazz Metal Show On iPlayer

Quality wireless listening on archived service

Quietus Editor John Doran was on Stuart Maconie’s Freakier Zone on BBC 6 Music on Saturday night talking about

Jazz Metal – another completely made up genre. After appearing on the Stuart Maconie’s ace show last month, J-Do was delighted to be asked back.

On Saturday night at midnight going into Sunday, the pair were talking about how jazz and metal are irritable bedfellows but how they can be combined… with much sweating, wailing and gnashing of the teeth. They played tracks by Naked City, Shining (pictured above), Mombu, Motorpsycho, Staale Storloekken, The Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, Massacre, Pain Killer, Ich Bin Nintendo and Mats Gustafsson.

You can listen to 6Music on the internet live here and you can catch up with it on the BBC radio iPlayer for about a week afterwards. JAZZERCISE YOUR NODES!

And if you happen to be unfamiliar with the Freak Zone/Freakier Zone, you should check it out regardless, as it’s among the best shows being produced anywhere in the world for fans of bizarre, experimental, avant-garde and messed-up music. Both are available on the iPlayer.
