Wrap your ears around The Witch House from forthcoming new EP

On July 8, Manchester IDM trio From The Kites Of San Quentin release a new EP, 7.83Hz: Earth Chorus (artwork above) via the city’s Victoria Warehouse Records label, and we’ve got a first play of the track ‘The Witch House’ – listen below:

The band have taken influence from the titular frequency, both "the biggest natural electromagnetic resonance frequency of the earth" and "a binaural beat within the human brain, an Alpha wave that’s said to contribute to states of relaxation and pre-sleep and pre-wake drowsiness". There’s a hint of that latter sense in ‘The Witch House’, which opens with billowy organ swathes laced with glitchy beats, but any sense of the cut being soporific is quickly sidelined: Alison Carney’s vocals are corralled centre stage, surrounded by a stop-start bass line and skittering digital synth lines which eventually break forth for the track’s second half, clattering towards a distant, rapid drum n’ bass surge before a momentary closing respite.

The band will be playing Soundwave Croatia, taking place from July 18-22, with further, as-yet-unconfirmed live dates to follow.

In the meantime, stay tuned to their Facebook page and have a look at their excellent teaser video, which not only gives you a taste of the rest of the EP but sees them guiding you through the world of frequency modulators and suchlike:
