Oakland crew Lumerians have a new album, The High Frontier, on the way on June 10 via Partisan Records, and have just made LP cut ‘Dogon Genesis’ available – listen above.
The High Frontier is the four-piece’s second album, following up on 2011’s Transmalinnia, and their first to get a major UK release (pre-order via the label here). It should also rightfully get them the attention of a larger audience: ‘Dogon Genesis’ is an ace cut, opening with a retro-futuristic pulse (an apt pointer to the album’s name, taken from Gerard K. O’Neil’s 1976 book on space exploration) before giving way to a solid-as-the-earth guitar riff. Cosmic as this is, it gets even better halfway through, when it peaks out into a pounding rhythmic workout, over which organs pay cosmic prayer and the bass reverberates in space, before the riff comes back, even crunchier than before.
Also, that LISTEN: should really be a WATCH:, given that the track gets accompanied with the album’s faintly Rousseau-esque cover given a natty wavy animation. Good job, Lumerians.
