Flaming Lips Live On 6 Music Today

Band to play live set at Maida Vale this afternoon, with Wayne Coyne also set to front a show looking at the band's influences on Sunday

Following an excellent showing at the Roundhouse on Tuesday, which we hear involved Wayne Coyne nursing a baby on stage, the Flaming Lips will be appearing on Steve Lamacq’s show on BBC 6 Music this afternoon from 4-6pm, before playing a set live from the BBC’s Maida Vale studios from 6-7pm – tune in here.

Say 6 Music: "We’re promised a legendary Flaming Lips stage spectacular, which in the past has included lasers, dancing bears and that giant inflatable ball Wayne Coyne loves to crowd surf on! It’s going to be a massive, memorable celebration." If you’re attending – or hell, even if you aren’t – 6 Music have whipped up a handy Wayne Coyne paper mask that you can print out and wear – Coyne-ify yourself here.

Then, on Sunday, May 26, from 12-1pm, Coyne will be presenting tracks from the band’s influences on The Flaming Lips 6 Music Playlist, where, "listeners can expect tracks from the likes of Gavin Bryars, The Beatles, Beastie Boys and, perhaps surprisingly, Madonna."
