Oxford indie quartet Glass Animals have just posted a new track, ‘Black Mambo’ (artwork above), their first after signing to Paul Epworth’s Wolf Tone label. It’ll be the first release for the imprint, and is set to come out next month – have a listen below:
It’s further entrenching the sound forged on last year’s Leaflings EP, marrying skeletal piano to rumbling bass work, criss-crossed by scatterings of electronica synth. The result is a cut that paces about in echoey space – maybe an effect of recording in a studio buried deep in an Oxfordshire forest – becoming ever more coruscating as it ebbs on, given tension by feeling ever-so-slightly out-of-time (in the best way possible).
They’re about to embark on a run of dates, which include a pair of shows at European festivals:
