Asian Dub Foundation’s Chandrasonic is set to present a series of documentaries, Music Of Resistance, that examines the immense positive impact that music can have on societies in the developing world blighted by poverty and war.
The series is due to be shown over the coming months on Al Jazeera, and as Chandrasonic explains: “M.O.R. is about music that has been itself created from social/political struggle, usually by people at the lower rungs of society. Bono is a top-down activist. Our take starts from the bottom up.
“I’ve lived in the desert for a week with Tinariwen, been surrounded by teenagers with guns in a Rio favela, and spent time in the Kalakuta Republic and a commune in Lagos founded by Fela Kuti.”
Episodes see the ADF man travelling to destinations as far afield and diverse as Mali, Nigeria and Brazil, as M.O.R. follows stories, struggles and soundtracks from around the globe.
