Reg Presley, the lead singer of The Troggs, has died aged 71.
Presley announced that he was suffering from lung cancer last January after being taken ill while on stage at a gig in Germany in December 2011. He died at his home in Andover, Hampshire, where he had been brought up, surrounded by his family.
Formed in 1964, the band released a number of hugely successful singles, most famously ‘Wild Thing’, ‘With A Girl Like You’ and ‘Love Is All Around’. They continued to tour for just short of 50 years, calling time after Presley’s illness was diagnosed.
Paying tribute to the singer, 6 Music’s Marc Riley said: "He was… so engaging and, at the same time, having been so influential, he was so humble and so likeable" (via the BBC).
