Dean Blunt, one half of Hype Williams alongside fellow voyager Inga Copeland, has announced the imminent release of his first official solo album. Entitled The Redeemer, it will be released on May 1st through Hippos In Tanks and his own World Music label. It marks the follow-up to last year’s The Narcissist II – which was initially released as a free-to-download mixtape before being issued on vinyl towards the end of 2012 – and will consist of 19 tracks that "are replete with vivid mosaics of sound and imagery: orchestral sonatas drift into ravaged 4am ballads and feral psychedelia, and Blunt comes clearly into frame as a songcrafter of poise and assurance."
Yesterday, the first new track from the album emerged on Soundcloud. Entitled ‘Papi’, it signals quite a shift away from the hazy sound of Hype Williams, finding his voice emerging to the fore with a far clearer and less stoned feel. You can listen to it via the embed below.
