BACK: OMD

35th anniversary sees band releasing new album English Electric in April; watch teaser trailer below

British synthpop titans OMD have announced that they’ll be returning with a new album this spring.

English Electric is out on April 8 via 100% Records – have a watch of the teaser trailer dreamt up by German artist Henning M. Lederer featuring album cut ‘Decimal’, which impressively turns techno-babble into a lulling sonic miniature, below:

Within the album’s 12 tracks, written and produced by Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys, there’s also a collaboration, ‘Kissing The Machine’, with original Kraftwerk man Karl Bartos.

Says McCluskey of the album: “The overarching feel tends to be a sense of loss, of melancholia, that things haven’t turned out the way you wanted them to, whether it be with technology or personal relationships.”

McCluskey and Humphreys will also be reuniting with original members Malcolm Holmes and Martin Cooper for a run of shows following the album’s release, which should take in a fair amount of old material with the band turning 35 this year – here are the dates:
