Yeah Yeah Yeahs have just announced that they’ll be returning after a four-year gap with a new album. After some rumblings late last year, the band confirmed via their Facebook page that they’ll be releasing Mosquito (artwork below) on April 15 – watch the LP’s teaser trailer below:
Production duties were split between Dave Sitek and Nick Launay, while there’s one track with James Murphy at the helm. The album, their first since 2009’s It’s Blitz!, will also have an appearance by Bronx rapper Kool Keith, working under his Dr. Octagon pseudonym.
Talking about the record, Karen O said: “We would love for this music to make our fans feeeeel something, for it to stir some shit up inside of them, whatever that may be. SO much feeling went into this record, it was the rope ladder thrown down into the ditch for us to climb up and dust ourselves off. I hope others can climb up it too; we’re excited to share the good vibes.”
“We took a more playful, LO-FI approach to songwriting. Much of the music was demoed in our little basement studio in Manhattan with drum machines, a shitty sample keyboard and tons of delay – which we called the soup.
Most intriguingly, she adds: “I think this record has more moodier and tripped-out songs than you’ve ever heard from us. You might catch some roots reggae and minimalist psychedelia influences in there.”
The band played their first gig of the year last weekend in Pomona, California, and dropped a couple of new songs into their set – have a watch below:
