LISTEN: New Pete Swanson

It's very good...

Pete Swanson, formerly one half of Yellow Swans, co-pilot of Sarin Smoke alongside Tom Carter (of Charalambides) and producer of marvelous and abrasive techno/noise hybrids, has announced the release of a new EP. Entitled Punk Authority, it’s the follow-up to last year’s great Pro Style EP (on Type) and his acclaimed Man With Potential full length, and is set for release on March 11th via Software.

In a recent interview with the Quietus Swanson said that the EP would be "basically a mini-album. 32 minutes of supremely demolished beats with more melodic hooks." On the evidence of EP track ‘Life Ends At 30’, which you can listen to above and watch the video for below, he was spot on about the ‘supremely demolished’ part – be warned, it’s powerful enough to warrant a ‘handle with caution’ warning.

"If you listen to all of my music," said Swanson in the same interview, "you’ll hear some consistency in sound vocabulary with repetitive melodic patterns, drum machines, frenetic high-end noise. The inception of Yellow Swans was based on a desire to make electronic music that was physical and cathartic. Both Gabe [Saloman, other half of Yellow Swans] and I came out of an avant-hardcore background and all of our friends were getting into techno and IDM, we both found the music to be intriguing, but not impacting. I connect to a lot of that music now more than I did when I was younger, but I’m also more successful at making electronic music that is aggressive and cathartic."

Punk Authority contains four tracks – its tracklist runs as follows.

‘Punk Authority’

‘C.O.P.’

‘Grounds For Arrest’

‘Life Ends at 30’
